Take a relaxing cruise to Missouri's Wine Country, or down the Great River Road!
It's easy to get away from the hustle and bustle of St. Louis with the Missouri wine country only a hop, skip and a jump away. Distance yourself from the construction on Highway 40 and the Interbelt and cruise down a two lane road with nothing but the pavement and the scenery to guide you.
The Great River Road also offers great scenery and wonderful restaurants. Drive North from Alton into Grafton for a spectacular view of steep cliffs rising far above the river. Check out the legendary Piasa Bird painted on one of the cliffs towering over the road. Continue north for even a farther drive to Pere Marquette State Park and stay at one of their rustic lodges.
After staying the night at Pere Marquette, head south and take one of the countries few remaining free ferries, Brussels Ferry. It's only a five minute trip across the river, and then your back on the road again.
